Skyscraper Technique for SEO
The Skyscraper Technique has 3 major steps.
Step 1: Find Link-worthy Content.
Find the best content which already has a lot of backlinks pointing to it.
Find the content with tools including BuzzSumo, Visual.ly, Open Site Explorer, Google News, Google Search (top 10 results), etc.
Step 2: Make Something Even Better.
You go ahead and create something which is better than that content with lots of backlinks. The improved content you are to create must be link-worthy from your niche. The content must be so good that if you ask other bloggers to link to it, they probably will.
The "better" content you create must be longer, more up-to-date, better designed, and more thorough.
Step 3: Reach Out to the Right People.
Get all the sites (or pages) that are already linking to your competitor.
To find the above information, you use tools such Majestic SEO, Open Site Explorer or Ahrefs.
Remove those sites that don't make sense for you to ask for backlinks.
Write an email, and send to the rest of the site owners / bloggers (except the removed ones).
Wait for the site owners' / bloggers' responses. Some of them would respond with good news.
If you can get 16% of the emails sent say YES, you're still quite good (after all the years).
